Introduction
A major in Sports Communication prepares students for a variety of careers in industries related to sports and athletic competition; from journalism and play-by-play broadcasting, to marketing and sports information. Sports Communications majors will develop an interdisciplinary skill set in contemporary communication practices that will enable them to research, analyze, design, and deliver strategic messaging in a variety of formats for a diverse audience.

Major Requirements: 44 Credits
All of the Following: 28 Credits
Electives: 8 Credits
Two of the credits must be upper-division.
One of the Following MEDA Concentrations: 8 Credits
Program Details
Program Length
Four years for a complete BA degree. Two years for students transferring in with an AAOT degree. Program length may vary depending upon the student’s course load and academic progress.
Program Learning Outcomes
By completing a major in sports communication, students will be able to:
- Create effective messages in a variety of formats that are appropriate to specific audiences,
- Develop a communications strategy that supports the mission and values of sports-related organizations,
- Describe the unique characteristics of the field of sports and how they affect the communication process,
- Create work that reflects an understanding of the legal and ethical implications of communication in sports-related industries,
- Communicate effectively via written, oral, visual or other means appropriate to the intended audience.
