Introduction
The Graphic Design program offers students a dynamic learning experience that combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice in visual communication. Through a curriculum grounded in fundamental skills, design thinking, and creative problem-solving, students develop the skills and mindset necessary to thrive in the ever-evolving landscape of graphic design.
Graphic designers are problem solvers at heart. Our program emphasizes cultivating critical thinking, design thinking, and experimentation. Students are encouraged to explore unconventional solutions, challenge assumptions, and push the boundaries of visual communication. Whether tackling complex branding projects, motion graphics, editorial layouts, or digital interfaces, students develop the confidence and resilience to navigate diverse design challenges
Major Requirements: 44 Credits
All of the Following: 24 Credits
Electives: 16 Credits
8 credits must be upper division.
Applied or Experiential Courses: 4 Credits

Program Length
Four years for a complete BA degree. Two years for students transferring in with an AAOT degree. Program length may vary depending upon the student’s course load and academic progress.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate proficiency in visually communicating ideas and narratives through fundamental design principles, typography, color theory, and layout skills.
- Produce effective visual communication solutions tailored to specific audiences and contexts, informed by an understanding of the human elements influencing design.
- Demonstrate iterative design processes to solve visual communication problems creatively throughout the ideation process.
- Demonstrate a multifaceted design approach that integrates design history, theory, and criticism through diverse viewpoints, recognizing design’s societal and cultural implications.
- Effectively employ appropriate tools and technologies to create and distribute visual messages in alignment with industry standards and practices
