Introduction
The film and video major at Pacific offers exciting and rewarding hands-on experience. Students will explore filmmaking through various production projects, where they’ll develop their own storytelling style by exploring various film modes like documentary, narrative, experimental, and animated filmmaking. Beyond the camera, students will develop essential skills in screenwriting, cinematography, and post-production, gaining a well-rounded understanding of the craft. Students explore the rich history of film, analyzing classics and contemporary works to sharpen their critical thinking.
Major Requirements: 42 Credits
All of the Following: 22 Credits
Electives: 20 Credits
Choose 20 credits from the following. A minimum of 10 credits must be from Applied/Experiential courses or Internship (up to 4 credits can count toward major).
Program Details
Program Length
Four years for a complete BA degree. Two years for students transferring in with an AAOT degree. Program length may vary depending upon the student’s course load and academic progress.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Identify and describe key terms, concepts, trends, and periods in film production (narrative, documentary, experimental, and/or animation), film history, and theory, and apply such knowledge to the production of media to best communicate to an intended audience.
- Demonstrate skills in effectively collaborating on video project productions, including working with peers and professors.
- Demonstrate skills in creating high-quality media productions that effectively communicate their intended story to an audience, including story development, producing, cinematography, editing, and audio production/post-production.
- Demonstrate the ability to work with a production schedule that allows for the iterative process, incorporating feedback and critical reflection.
