Introduction
Graphic design students harness the power of visual communication to design publications, logos and brand systems, websites, apps, information graphics, and more. The major includes a core set of required courses and a robust collection of electives to help students develop professional skills and build a portfolio of work using industry standard tools and methodologies. Students gain the personal satisfaction of making beautiful and functional work as well as the lasting fulfillment of creating work that matters.
Program Length
Four years for a complete BA degree. Two years for students transferring in with an AAOT degree. Program length may vary depending upon the student’s course load and academic progress.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Create effective print and digital communications, and user experiences through the application of theories, tools, and best practices in the field.
- Exhibit a thoughtful application of the elements and principles of visual design, color theory, information hierarchy, and typography to successfully communicate narratives, concepts, emotions, and/or identities across a variety of media.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills for project planning, design, and creation.
- Communicate clearly in visual, verbal, and written forms using techniques appropriate to the intended audience.
- Participate as a team member to make collaborative decisions toward shared objectives with civility, interpersonal skills, and professionalism.
- Explain how design enhances viewer comprehension in extracting meaning from designed elements.
- Interpret the ethical, environmental, legal, or social effects of designed works on the larger global community.

All of the Following: 24 Credits
Electives: 16 Credits
8 credits must be upper division.
Applied or Experiential Courses: 4 Credits
