ARTHI 371 - Contemporary Art History 4 credit(s) Intended for non-majors, provides an in-depth investigation of the complex world of contemporary art since 1950. It offers a selective history of the visual art movements in Europe, America and the current international world of art. In particular, this course explores the meaning and functions of art created within specific social, political, technological, and artistic contexts. It also examines the various critical and theoretical models used to discuss and describe contemporary art, such as Formalism, Marxism, Semiotics, Feminism, Gender Studies, Psychoanalysis, Postmodernism, Sustainability, Cultural Studies, and Globalization.
