DPT 746 - Amputation Rehabilitation

Examines amputation rehabilitation from prior to the amputation surgery through gait and balance training for those people who are appropriate for prosthetic limbs. Topics covered include incidence and etiology, post-operative care, pre-prosthetic care, gait and balance training, functional mobility, and prosthetic componentry. Both upper and lower extremity amputations are discussed, as well as considerations for working with pediatric patients. Also included is a discussion on footcare for those with diabetes.
