HIST 319 - Rise and Fall of the Japanese Empire 4 credit(s) This course examines imperialism in East Asia in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It explores colonial ideologies and structures of rule of Western imperialist powers compared to that of Japan. Major topics include Pan-Asianism, anti-colonial nationalism, wartime mobilization, life under colonial rule, and the postcolonial legacy of Japan’s empire.
