SOCWK 636 - Practice With LGBTQ Folx

3 credit(s)
Social workers will practice with LGBTQ individuals and their loved ones throughout their careers. This class prepares students to develop cultural awareness and consideration for the diverse and intersectional lives of LGBTQ people, particularly within sociopolitical contexts that can impact their mental and physical health and
safety.  Seminar-style class discussions will critically examine health inequities and explore well being, recognizing disparities and marginalization along with resilience and empowerment. Students will learn from readings, videos, case studies and role-playing. Learning outcomes will be assessed through class engagement, critical thinking questions, reflections and a therapeutic group session proposal for an LGBTQ population.
