Mission: The Optometry Residency in Primary Care/Ocular Disease – Department of Veterans Affairs, Roseburg, Oregon, seeks to provide an opportunity for recently graduated optometrist to advance their body of knowledge and experience beyond entry level. The one-year program will concentrate on the delivery of primary care and management of acute and chronic ocular disease in a multidisciplinary setting under the guidance of experienced clinicians.
Program Goals:
- Improve the resident’s knowledge and skills to practice effectively in a primary care setting.
- Create an environment that allows the resident to become competent and confident to independently manage the ocular and visual problems of the geriatric population.
- Improve the resident’s ability to effectively co-manage medical/surgical eye conditions.
- Integrate the resident into multidisciplinary care team.
- Ensure the resident attains an appreciation that the practice of optometry is a dynamic profession requiring lifelong study.
