Introduction
Learn the language and culture of Japan and develop an awareness of the diversity of an increasingly interconnected world. The Japanese program pairs the classroom immersion experience with cultural experiences on campus. Students engage with Japanese language speakers using state-of-the-art technology in the Center for Languages and International Collaboration.

Note: Students enter the sequence at a level appropriate to their previous preparation and may be exempt from up to 8 credits of lower division coursework in the minor unless otherwise noted.
Program Learning Outcomes
Students completing the minor in Japanese will:
- Achieve linguistic proficiency in Japanese for listening, speaking, reading and writing equivalent to ACTFL* Intermediate Mid
- Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural differences, reflect on their own culture, and explain differences between their own culture and the cultures of Japan.
