Environmental Science, Minor


Introduction

The minor in environmental science is designed to expose students to the interdisciplinary nature of environmental issues, with emphasis on the current scientific methods used to study these issues. This minor is intended to provide students with a firm foundation in the language, concepts and methods of Environmental Science as well as perspectives on current issues concerning the environment. This minor emphasizes the fundamentals of natural and applied environmental science, with focus areas in restoration/conservation biology, environmental toxicology and chemistry, psychology, and public health. Students from a wide-range of primary disciplines in the sciences may benefit from this minor area of specialization.

Program Learning Outcomes


A student completing a minor in Environmental Science shall demonstrate the ability to:

  • Apply the scientific method and quantitative techniques to describe, monitor, investigate and understand environmental systems.

  • Use interdisciplinary approaches such as ecology, economics, ethics and policy to identify and devise solutions to environmental problems.

  • Use technology such as geographical information systems and computer programming, to assist in problem solving.
