Introduction

The Multimedia major asks students to take a wide range of courses in writing, editing, graphic design, video production, integrated media and photography. Students who are skillful in media convergence are poised to meet the demands of the 21st century media landscape. In this program, students gain expertise in using high-definition cameras and a digital media lab that features graphic design, illustration, web design and digital audio and video production hardware and software.  

Major Requirements: 42-44 Credits


One of the Following Pairs of Courses: 4 Credits


Media Arts Majors consult with Media Arts faculty to choose the Capstone Seminar sequence that best fits their project and provides the appropriate faculty guidance, but the capstone project must span at least two Modes of Communication (Film/Video, Integrated Media, Journalism, Communication).

Two Clusters: 16 Credits


Students select 2 clusters and complete a minimum of 8 credits from each. Students are encouraged to consult with Media Arts advisors to choose the clusters that will best prepare them for their intended capstone project and post-graduate plans. At least 8 upper-division credits must come from classes taken from both of the clusters.

Program Details


Program Length

Four years for a complete BA degree.  Two years for students transferring in with an AAOT degree.  Program length may vary depending upon the student’s course load and academic progress.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Communicate clearly and concisely, visually, verbally and in writing, using techniques appropriate for the intended audience.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of discipline-specific skills and vocabulary.
  • Interpret the ethical, legal, and social impacts of various modes of media delivery and consumption in a wider societal and global context.
  • Participate as a team member to make collaborative decisions toward shared objectives with civility and interpersonal skills.
  • Construct a body of work that demonstrates visual intelligence, conceptual understanding, collaboration and technical facility at a professional entry level in media design and production.
