Introduction
A minor in music provides students with the opportunity to study music theory and analysis, music history and performance in multiple forms and genres while building their skills as instrumentalists and performers. Music minors take a minimum of four semesters of private lessons and participate in our large ensembles.

Applied Music: 2 Credits
Applied Music on student’s primary instrument or voice:
Large Ensemble: 0-4 Credits
Large ensemble participation for four semesters
(appropriate to instrument/voice):
Total: 20-24 Credits
*Waived for students who pass the Piano Proficiency Test without enrolling
Other Requirements
Students of piano at the 300-level or above are required to provide designated departmental accompanying, which substitutes for major ensemble participation. Pianists accompanying a departmental ensemble are to enroll for that ensemble. Those engaged in other departmental accompanying are to enroll in MUS 280 .
Program Details
Program Learning Outcomes
By successfully completing a minor in Music, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate a knowledge of Music Theory and Music History.
- Demonstrate a proficiency commensurate with the MUSL 272 level of competency as outlined in the syllabi for the student’s respective area of performance.
- Demonstrate a proficiency in general musicianship, aural skills, piano and sight-reading.
- Participate in ensemble performance.
- Establish a life long interest in music, participation and enjoyment in music.
