Introduction

English literature minors engage a wide range of texts from varied cultures, genres, historical periods, and perspectives. Pacific’s literature courses are small and intensive in order to build the skills of critical-thinking, analytical writing, and rhetorical analysis.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of a minor in English Literature, students are able to:

Demonstrate a clear understanding of primary literary texts and a familiarity with their cultural, formal, and literary contexts and backgrounds.
Identify the role of context in the production, reception, and transmission of literary works (including historical periods, geographic or national spaces, and cultural differences).
Demonstrate a familiarity with major theoretical schools and discourses and an ability to apply them to a variety of literary or aesthetic works.
Support literary analysis and research with peer-reviewed academic resources using proper documentation and citation formats according to industry standards.
