Introduction


The journalism major at Pacific focuses students on hands-on reporting experiences for reporting in a digital-first world of news. Our updated college journalism curriculum prepares students with the digital reporting skills they’ll need to thrive in today’s newsrooms. Students are immersed in print reporting, copy editing, video for news, social media for news, journalism ethics, and many other skills needed to land the best reporting jobs.

Admissions  

Program Length

Four years for a complete BA degree.  Two years for students transferring in with an AAOT degree.  Program length may vary depending upon the student’s course load and academic progress.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • apply emotionally-intelligent interviewing skills, including media ethics and inclusivity when working with the public, including marginalized populations
  • employ composition skills of argumentation and editing appropriate for reporting the news*
  • produce digital news packages that engage audiences with relevant facts, visuals and technical components, and the complexity of issues addressed
  • create rigorous content in deadline-driven contexts
  • critique the contextual factors that shape the media in a diverse, globalized media landscape
