SOCWK 693 - Social Work Practice with Trauma

Focuses on clinical social work practice with survivors of trauma. Students will learn about biological, psychological, and social effects of trauma, historical and recent trauma research, and leading trauma practice frameworks. Students will gain clinical knowledge and skills needed to conduct trauma-informed bio-psychosocial assessments, brief and ongoing treatment, crisis management, service referrals, and termination in both trauma-focused and generalist practice settings. Learning will be case-based, clinical skills development will be emphasized, and evidence-supported treatments will be presented. Through their assignments, students will have focused learning throughout the semester on one particular form of trauma.
