CJLS 325 - Constitutionalism I 4 credit(s) This course is about the structural protections of liberty in the U.S. Constitution: popular sovereignty, the rule of law, limited government, federalism, and separation of powers. We will focus on the evolution of these principles by key political and legal actors: presidents, members of Congress, as well as the decisions of the Supreme Court. There will be a special focus on the latter. The course will show how the development of our constitution is not only legal-but thoroughly political. There are no official prerequisites for the course, but students should have a basic understanding of how the three branches of the US government operate. Also listed as POLS 325 .
