ARTHI 376 - Adv Art & Architecture of Asia 4 credit(s) Course provides an in-depth study of the architecture and visual arts of Asia, focusing primarily upon the artistic traditions of India, China and Japan from prehistory up to modern. Major artworks, monuments, artists, and themes will be examined and interpreted using various analytical and contextual perspectives (such as formal, functional, iconographic, sociological, cultural, historical, political, philisophical, and religious) in order to construct an understanding of their significance in an Asian cultural context. Students will also learn various critical and theoretical models used to discuss and describe Asian art and architecture. Offered as a bi-level course with ARTHI 276. Students cannot take both ARTHI 276 and ARTHI 376 for credit. Offered: Fall, alternate years
