DPT 520 - Rehabilitation Neuroscience I 4 credit(s) Introduces the cellular, anatomical, and physiological basis of neuroscience and how it relates to physical therapy. Structure and physiological function of the nervous system are correlated with normal and abnormal processes. Active learning, including application of clinical correlates and research literature, are utilized to foster appropriate decision-making skills in students. Topics of discussion include: structure of neurons and glial cells, action potential generation and synaptic function, neurodevelopment and neuroplasticity, gross anatomy and physiological function of the brain, the brainstem, and the spinal region, cranial nerve function, autonomic function, and sensorimotor function.
